Grand Island Regional Landfill on W. Husker Highway is the large regional landfill people from Shelton and nearby towns use for big cleanouts and contractor hauls. It's a landfill - the final place where garbage gets buried, not a recycling drop-off. Tipping fees are part of the picture and are typically figured by weight or load class, and the site does accept commercial truckloads.
Pull up to the entrance and plan to stop at a weigh scale/booth so your load can be checked and you can be directed where to go. There are separate lanes and unloading spots for larger trucks versus smaller pickups, with heavy equipment and transfer vehicles working the site. The surface is mostly gravel and dirt and can be bumpy or muddy after rain, and the working face and cover areas are visible from the dump points. Expect lines on weekends and during spring cleanup season; those are the busiest times.
