Valley View Landfill

Valley View Landfill, 300 Highway 518, East Helena, 59635, Montana

Valley View Landfill is the big burial site a few miles out of Decatur where residential and commercial trash ends up. Drivers bringing full loads, contractors with dumpsters, and folks doing yard cleanups all use it. The place looks and feels like a working landfill rather than a transfer station-big, open cells with compacted cover and heavy equipment moving around.

Pull up to an entrance booth and be ready to stop - there’s a scale at most landfills like this so vehicles are weighed coming in and again leaving, which is how tipping fees are figured. Traffic lanes lead toward drop areas; larger rigs will follow slightly different routing than pickup trucks. The site is mostly dirt and gravel roads, watch for mud after rain and give big equipment plenty of room. Expect to back up to a tipping face to unload and then move off to the exit scale.

Before You Go

  • Secure tarps and loose items on open loads; wind and bumps can send stuff flying on the gravel roads.
  • If hauling commercial or bulky material, bring any required paperwork or load manifests - commercial traffic is handled differently than small residential trips.
  • Avoid peak spring cleanup weekends if possible; lines and wait times grow noticeably when everyone in town is cleaning out garages and yards.
