Tri County Disposal

3630 York Rd, Helena, MT 59602

(406) 227-6300

Tri County Disposal is the local disposal site out on York Road that people from around Helena and neighboring areas use when they need to get rid of household and yard junk. The place is practical and fairly low-key, mostly serving residents who haul loads themselves and contractors dropping off material.

Drive in off York Road and there’s usually an entrance booth and a scale to stop at - sites like this often charge by weight so be prepared to stop again on the way out. The lot is open and exposed, with piles and containers visible from the drive; pull up to the booth and they’ll direct where to tip or unload. The surface can be gravel or packed dirt and gets sloppy in wet weather or snowy during winter, so take it slow when pulling a trailer. Lines form on weekends and during spring cleanup, so bring patience and space to queue.

Before You Go

  • Secure and cover loads before leaving home - loose debris can blow out on the highway or be refused at the gate.
  • Bring gloves and a tarp; it’s dusty and there aren’t many sheltered spots for sorting loads.
  • Allow extra travel time in winter or after storms since roads and the site itself can get icy or snowpacked, and multiple-county users mean higher weekend traffic.
