Plains Transfer Site is the small transfer station out on Old Hicks Road that folks from Plains and surrounding areas use when the landfill is too far. Neighbors bring household trash, bulky items, and recycling here because loads get compacted and trucked off to a larger landfill elsewhere. The site tends to be the local option for handling things that won’t fit in curbside cans.
Drive in off Old Hicks Road and look for a little entrance booth and a scale - charges at this kind of place are often by weight, so expect to stop at the scale on the way in and again on the way out. There’s usually a concrete tipping area and a compactor pit where trucks load up, with recycling or drop-off bins set to one side. Vehicles pull up to the tipping face; attendants (if present) will indicate where to empty things. Weekends and spring cleanup can get busy, so lines and wait times are common.
