Pink Hill Sanitary Landfill is the big burying spot out on MO-7 that handles the final disposal of trash from around Independence. Local homeowners and haulers both use it for loads that can't go to curbside pickup. As a sanitary landfill, it operates on a tipping-fee basis and typically takes commercial as well as residential loads.
Drive up to a small entrance booth and be ready to stop at a scale; loads are usually weighed and charged by weight, so expect to cross the scale on the way in and again on the way out. The site is large, with open cells and heavy equipment moving around - trucks and compactors are common sights. After the booth, follow the flow of traffic to the tipping area where trucks pull up, dump, and move on; the haul routes are dirt and can be rutted after rain. Weekends and spring cleanup times tend to be the busiest, so lines can form at the entrance.
