IESI Timber Ridge Landfill is the large landfill out on State Highway H just outside Richwoods, where bulky residential cleanouts and heavier commercial loads end up. As a burial-type landfill, it handles big truck traffic and larger-than-curbside material rather than sorting or processing it. Neighbors and haulers both use it when a pickup or municipal program won’t take the load.
There’s an entrance booth and a vehicle scale - tipping fees at landfills are normally charged by weight, so expect to stop to be weighed in and again on the way out. From the scale, follow the flow of traffic out to the active tipping area; heavy equipment and gravel driving surfaces are common. After unloading, vehicles usually come back through the scale for an exit weight and payment collection. The place looks industrial: wide turning areas for trucks, piles or cells of compacted material, and equipment working the slopes.
