Central Missouri Sanitary Landfill is the big landfill out on Oak Grove Lane in Sedalia where trash gets buried rather than sorted. Locals and haulers bring everything from household junk to construction debris, so it can feel like a working site. State agencies set the rules and fees, so what’s accepted and the tipping charges can vary by location.
Drive up and there’s usually a small entrance booth and a scale; landfills typically charge tipping fees by weight, so expect to stop on the way in and again on the way out for weighing. The site looks like large capped cells and exposed working areas with heavy equipment moving dirt and loads around. Pull up to the booth then follow the flow to the active dumping area, where vehicles tip and move on; traffic can back up at peak times. Because this is a final burial site, it’s more rough and industrial than a recycling center or drop-off.
