Itasca County Transfer Station

29959 E Bass Lake Rd, Grand Rapids, MN 55744

(218) 328-5801

Small county transfer station just off E Bass Lake Rd in Grand Rapids, used mainly by local residents hauling household junk, yard waste and small construction debris. It’s the sort of place people stop at when driving to a closer drop-off is easier than a long trip to the landfill.

Pull up to a staffed entrance booth and they’ll direct you where to go; there’s usually a scale somewhere on the drive so vehicles pause twice. The site is compact - concrete bays and compacting equipment are visible from the drive - and recycling containers are typically grouped to one side past the booth. In winter expect shorter hours and the possibility of indoor drop-off areas at Minnesota facilities, so dress for cold and be ready for a slippery ramp or icy patches.

Before You Go

  • Bring gloves and a tarp or ropes to keep loose loads from blowing; the wind off the yard piles can be worse than it looks.
  • Line up larger items so they’re easy to lift or slide out; quick unloading keeps the line moving and makes the compactor bay less of a hassle.
  • Weekends and spring clean-up get busy - plan to wait or show up early on a weekday morning if possible.
