Solid Waste Facility

Brown County Solid Waste and Recyling

14 S State St, New Ulm, MN 56073

(507) 233-6640

Small county transfer and recycling spot used by New Ulm residents and nearby rural folks for household trash, recyclables and yard debris. Quiet most weekdays but gets busier on weekends and during spring cleanup. The site sits right on S State Street and feels like the kind of place locals swing by with a trailer or pickup.

There’s a little drive-up booth at the entrance where vehicles slow down to check in, and a scale nearby so trucks often stop twice. Recycling bins and drop-off points are grouped together off to one side, while larger dumpsters and yard waste piles are toward the back. The lot is gravel and can get muddy or icy in bad weather, and some drop-off points are sheltered for cold months. Lines can form on warm spring days and holiday weekends, so expect a short wait at peak times.

Before You Go

  • Have materials roughly sorted before pulling up - it speeds things along and keeps drivers behind from getting impatient.
  • Bring sturdy footwear and a shovel or broom if unloading loose yard waste; the ground is often uneven and messy.
  • Plan for slower service on Saturdays and during spring cleanup; arriving midweek usually means a quicker trip.
