Waste Management - Peoples Landfill

4143 East Rathbun Road, Birch Run, MI 48415

(866) 909-4458

A working landfill on the outskirts of Birch Run that sees both pickup trucks from local households and larger commercial haulers. It’s the place trash ends up when curbside or transfer options aren’t used, and the site feels big and industrial rather than tidy.

There’s an entrance booth and a scale - vehicles usually stop to be weighed, so expect to slow down on the way in and again on the way out. The site is dominated by large earthen mounds, compacted rows of fill and heavy equipment moving around; it’s dusty in dry weather and can be muddy after rain. Loads are driven to a tipping area where materials are dumped and then pushed into place, so drivers need to be ready to follow staff directions and hold position if equipment is nearby. Because this is a full-scale landfill, both residential vehicles and larger commercial trucks are commonly using the site.

Before You Go

  • Cover and secure whatever is being hauled - loose debris can blow out while driving to the tip area.
  • Bring gear you don’t mind getting dirty; boots and gloves are useful since surfaces can be muddy and uneven.
  • Expect queues on weekends and during spring clean-up; plan extra time and keep the load organized so unloading goes quickly.
