Sands Township Transfer Station on Flodin Road is the small local transfer station people from Gwinn use instead of driving way out to a landfill. Mostly the spot for residential drop-offs and small trailers, it’s a no-frills, practical place rather than anything fancy.
Drive up to an entrance booth and then follow the traffic flow into the yard; there’s usually a scale and fees are charged, so plan for a second stop on the way out. The site looks like an open yard with large roll-off containers and a building where loads get compacted and loaded onto transport trucks. Recycling or drop-off bins are often off to one side so separating loads can speed things up. Weekends-especially during spring cleanup-get backed up, and expect a little walking between parking and the actual drop-off point.
