Hastings Landfill

1899 N. M43 Hwy., Hastings, MI 49058

800-963-4776

Hastings Landfill is the big county dump out on N. M43 that both residents and haulers use when trash needs to be buried. Located just north of Hastings, it handles large-scale disposal rather than drop-off recycling or transfer station stuff. Trucks and pickup loads turn through here when garbage has to go to the final cell.

There’s a scale house at the entrance where vehicles stop to be weighed and fees are calculated by weight, so expect a pause coming in and again leaving. Pull up to the booth, they’ll direct where to unload; commercial rigs usually have a separate flow from smaller vehicles. The site is open dirt and gravel with active tipping faces and cover areas, not a tidy transfer-yard - plan on some dust and heavy equipment noise. Recycling or container areas tend to be off to the side past the entrance point, so don’t assume everything goes to the pit.

Before You Go

  • Separate anything that might be refundable under Michigan’s bottle/can deposit before heading in - those often get handled differently than regular trash.
  • Have identification and vehicle paperwork handy if bringing a trailer or commercial load, since trucks are commonly charged by weight and may be processed differently.
  • Avoid weekends and spring cleanup mornings if possible; lines and wait times get noticeably longer when lots of people are dropping off bulk junk.
