Transfer Station

GFL Dearborn Hauling and Transfer Station

3051 Schaefer Rd, Dearborn, MI 48126

(888) 895-8696

A working transfer station off Schaefer Road where local residents and small haulers drop off household trash to be compacted and hauled out to a landfill. Mostly used by people who don't want to drive all the way to a distant landfill and need a quick place to unload a trunk, pickup, or small trailer.

Drive up to an entrance booth and be prepared to stop at a scale - loads are typically weighed and charged by weight at places like this. The site looks industrial: large bays, compactors, and piles behind fences; bring something sturdy to walk on if getting out of a vehicle. Pull up to the indicated bay or hopper when directed by signage and load out as directed; there’s usually a clear flow for incoming and outgoing vehicles so stay in the lane. Weekends and spring cleanup tend to be busier, so expect some lineups and a bit of noise from trucks and compacting equipment.

Before You Go

  • Secure tarps or tie downs on trailers - loose material can be a hassle and some facilities won't accept uncontained loads.
  • Keep recyclables like bottles and cans separate from general trash when possible, since Michigan has a bottle deposit program that can affect where those items are taken.
  • Bring help for heavier items; the ground is often uneven and there are concrete edges and metal chutes to navigate.
