Charlton Twp Waste Station

10900 M-32, Johannesburg, MI 49751

(989) 732-8273

Charlton Twp Waste Station is the small community dump for Johannesburg and nearby rural roads. A lot of locals swing by with truckloads or trailer loads rather than single bags. It’s the kind of place used mostly by households and small landowners for regular disposal runs.

Drive in to a single-lane entrance with a small attendant booth visible from the road; there’s usually a scale near the entrance so vehicles stop twice if they’re charged by weight. Pull-up spots and drop-off areas are spread out across a gravel yard, with larger piles and containers grouped by type; recycling bins are typically set off to one side. Bring a tarp or straps for loose debris because backing up to a pit or container and unloading by hand is common. Expect weekends, especially in spring, to be busier and a little slower as trucks and trailers line up.

Before You Go

  • Separate bottles and cans from regular trash before getting there - Michigan’s bottle/can deposit system affects how locals sort recyclables and returns.
  • Have ropes, gloves, and a shovel handy; most people unload themselves and some spots require backing up to a container or climbing into a pickup bed.
  • Go during a weekday morning if possible to avoid the long weekend lines that form in spring cleanup season.
