Warren Sanitary Transfer Station in Ware is the local transfer station where people drop off household trash and recycling to be compacted and trucked out to a landfill. Neighbors, contractors with small loads, and anyone who prefers not to drive to a distant dump use this place regularly.
Drive up to an entrance booth and be prepared to pull over briefly; many transfer stations have a scale at the entry or exit and charge by weight, so expect to stop more than once. The site is not a landfill - loads are tipped, compacted and loaded into larger trucks for transport elsewhere. There are usually separate containers or spots for recyclables and for bulky items, and weekends or spring cleanup days can get backed up with a line of vehicles.
Learn how to properly dispose of common items.
