Town Landfill

135 Hamilton St, Belchertown, MA 01007

(413) 323-0416

Town Landfill is Belchertown’s municipal dump where household and larger loads end up buried. Locals, landscapers, and small contractors bring stuff here when curbside pickup won’t do. It’s the kind of place people go when they’ve cleaned out a garage or finished a big yard job.

Drive up to a small gatehouse and be prepared to stop at a scale - this site charges by weight, so there’s a weigh-in on the way in and another on the way out. The tipping area is broad with working faces of compacted material and piles of brush and construction debris nearby. Recycling and banned items are handled separately because Massachusetts has strict recycling rules; expect to be pointed to different piles or containers depending on what’s being dumped. Weekends, especially in spring, get busy and lines can form, so bring patience and plan for a short wait.

Before You Go

  • Sort recyclables, electronics, and hazardous-looking items at home; Massachusetts rules mean those often aren’t accepted in the main pit.
  • Cover and secure loads for the drive over - tarps and tied-down debris keep things from blowing off and making a mess on Hamilton Street.
  • Have proof of residency or any town sticker/permit handy if required, and be ready to pull onto the scale when directed so the process moves faster.
