North Adams Landfill

151 E St, North Adams, MA 01247

(413) 662-3147

Local landfill for North Adams residents and haulers, where the town’s non-recycled trash ends up buried. As with most landfills, there’s a scale and tipping fees charged by weight, and commercial loads are generally accepted.

Drive up to a small entrance lane with a scale and an attendant booth; vehicles typically stop on the scale coming in and again when leaving because tipping is weight-based. The site is a working yard with compacted dirt and large berms or capped mounds in the distance, and there can be the usual odors and dust on windy days. Pull up, show what’s being dropped, then follow signs or staff directions to the unloading area-larger trucks will be routed to a working face while smaller vehicles usually use a flatter drop spot.

Before You Go

  • Sort recyclables, metals, and bulky items before getting there since Massachusetts has strict recycling rules and separate processing is common.
  • Secure and tarp loads to avoid losing materials on the drive in; loose trash can get messy and slow things down.
  • Expect lines on weekends and during spring cleanup-arrive early if possible, and be ready to be weighed twice so loading and unloading moves quickly.
