Nantucket Landfill on Madaket Road is where most island trash ends up - residential folks, landscapers and haulers all drop loads here. It’s a working landfill, not a pretty park; expect trucks, compacted piles and a real island-scale operation.
There’s typically a gate/booth and a scale involved, so plan to pull up, get checked and then drive onto the scale; tipping fees are usually charged by weight at places like this. Commercial loads are commonly handled at landfills, though they often incur different rates than residential drops. The site will look industrial: big mounds, heavy equipment moving material, and recycling containers set off to the side. Weekends and spring cleanups get backed up, so lines and some waiting are normal.
