K&W Materials & Recycling, LLC West Springfield Transfer Station

138 Palmer Ave, West Springfield, MA 01089

(413) 498-0099

K&W Materials & Recycling in West Springfield is the town recycling center that locals use when things won’t fit in the curbside bin. Small commercial trucks and regular cars alike pull in here to drop off paper, cardboard, metal, glass and many common recyclables. Many neighborhood folks swing by during yard or clean-out projects, since Massachusetts requires sorting and some items are handled separately.

Drive up Palmer Avenue and you’ll see a small entrance booth and a scale where vehicles stop briefly; vehicles are weighed as part of the process. The site is a working transfer/recycling yard with rows of bins and a concrete tipping area rather than a landscaped lot. Containers for mixed paper, cardboard and containers are grouped together, while bulk or odd items sit off to the side. Weekends get busy, so expect queues and other people sorting materials at the bins.

Before You Go

  • Sort and bundle cardboard and paper at home; it saves time and keeps traffic moving once at the site.
  • Cover loose loads and tie down lightweight items so nothing blows out when driving or unloading.
  • Bring gloves and something to pry open boxes - the yard is practical and can be dusty or muddy depending on weather.
