Crapo Hill Landfill

300 Samuel Barnet Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745

Crapo Hill Landfill is New Bedford’s municipal dump where household and larger loads end up. People from the city and nearby towns bring mixed trash here, and commercial haulers often use landfills too.

Drive up to a scale building and stop at the booth; landfills usually charge by weight so expect a weigh-in on the way in and another on the way out. The site is big-open cells, bulldozers visible in the distance, and piles of cover dirt and compacted trash. Recycling separation matters in Massachusetts, so there are usually separate areas or containers for recyclables and signs about banned items. Weekends and spring cleanup times get busy, with a line of trucks and trailers waiting to get on site.

Before You Go

  • Have a photo ID and proof of residency handy if bringing a residential load-many local facilities check it.
  • Keep recyclables, bulky items, and metal separated before getting there; it saves time and avoids extra sorting on-site.
  • Secure loose material with a tarp or straps so nothing blows out during the trip; that makes unloading quicker and safer.
