Carlisle Transfer Station

Elizabeth Ridge Rd, Carlisle, MA 01741

(978) 369-8011

Carlisle Transfer Station on Elizabeth Ridge Road is the small-town transfer station locals use to drop off household trash and recyclables. It compacts loads on site and trucks them out to a landfill, so it feels different from a big open dump. Regular residents and small haulers both show up here.

Expect a short pause at an entrance booth and then a run of lanes leading to a tipping area and large containers or compactors; many transfer stations are set up this way. Pull up slowly - backing room can be tight and trucks move around. Signs and fences separate where different things go, and there are usually separate bins or bays for recyclables, bulky items and brush. Weekends and spring-cleanup mornings get backed up, so lines and waits are common then.

Before You Go

  • Try to go early on a weekday or right when the place opens to avoid long weekend lines - spring cleanup makes it especially busy.
  • Bring gloves, straps and a helper for heavy or awkward items; unloading often means tipping into a pit or moving things to a container by hand.
  • Have vehicle registration or any town sticker/permit handy if required, and secure loose material so nothing blows out while waiting in line.
