Recycling Center

Cambridge recycling center

147 Hampshire St, Cambridge, MA 02139

(617) 349-4800

A basic neighborhood recycling center in Cambridge where residents bring their sorted recyclables. People using it tend to be local homeowners or apartment dwellers clearing out bulk loads or routine bags for drop-off.

Expect the usual lines of blue and clear recycling containers and a few large roll-off trucks or trailers in the yard. Bring materials already separated-paper, glass, metal, plastics and often electronics or bulky items are handled differently at most places in Massachusetts. There will usually be traffic lanes to pull up to and staff or signage directing which pile or bin goes where. Weekends or spring cleanup times often mean longer waits and more cars in the lot.

Before You Go

  • Sort and bundle materials at home: paper in one stack, glass and metal in another, plastics separated by type if possible-saves time once on site.
  • Flatten boxes and remove food residue from containers so drop-off is quicker and more acceptable to attendants.
  • Have small loose items contained in clear bags or boxes to avoid spills when unloading; that simple step speeds things up and keeps the area cleaner for everyone.
