Baltimore City Department of Public Works SW Sanitation Yard

City Department of Public Works Southwestern Sanitation Yard, 701 Reedbird Ave, Baltimore, MD 21225

(410) 396-3367

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works Southwestern Sanitation Yard on Reedbird Avenue is the city’s southwest drop-off area for household bulk and city-collected refuse. Locals, haulers, and DPW trucks all come through here; it’s a working municipal lot, not a tidy retail center.

Pull up to the entrance off Reedbird and follow the traffic flow - there’s usually a clear way in and out, but trucks move around. The yard is mostly open pavement with large containers, piles of material, and heavy equipment working; expect dust, diesel smells, and an industrial feel. There’s an intake point where vehicles stop to be directed and then move to a drop-off spot, so plan for short stops and a bit of maneuvering. Weekends and spring cleanup times get busy and lines can form, so allow extra time if heading over then.

Before You Go

  • Secure loose loads with tarps or straps so nothing blows out on the drive or during unloading.
  • Bring gloves, sturdy shoes, and some helping hands or a dolly for heavy items - the yard ground can be uneven and most drops require manual unloading.
  • Aim for early in the day on a weekday if possible; late mornings and weekends are the busiest and take longer to get through.
