Presque Isle Landfill

202 Lathrop Rd, Presque Isle, ME 04769

(207) 764-2541

Presque Isle Landfill is the town’s large burial site for solid municipal refuse, located just off Lathrop Road. Locals and haulers drop off trash here when transfer stations are full or for larger, final-disposal loads. It’s the kind of place mostly used by residents bringing bulky items and by commercial haulers making regular runs.

Drive up a short access road to a gate and weigh scale area; landfills in Maine usually charge tipping fees by weight, so expect to stop for a weigh-in and then again after dumping. There’s an attendant booth near the entrance, and traffic will be directed where to pull up to the active cell or tipping face. The site is large, with packed dirt roads and visible landfill mounds; snow and ice can make the ground slick in winter, and weekends or spring cleanup times often mean lines. After unloading, most drivers will re-weigh before leaving to calculate the fee.

Before You Go

  • Secure loads with a tarp so nothing blows out while driving to and from the site; blowing debris will slow you down and annoy others.
  • Allow extra time in winter for slower access roads and icy ramps-bring winter traction gear for the vehicle if hauling heavy loads.
  • Arrive earlier in the day or midweek to avoid weekend backup, and be ready to pull onto the scale and into the booth area when directed.
