Jay Transfer Station

Jay Transfer Station is the small-town transfer station just off Main Street that local residents use to drop off household trash and recyclables before it gets trucked to a landfill. Located in Jay, Maine, it mainly serves nearby towns where driving to a distant landfill would be a longer trip. Expect a down-to-earth, functional place rather than a fancy facility.

Drive up the approach and look for the entrance booth near the driveway; there’s usually a scale before you leave since loads are compacted and hauled out. The site is compact - piles, compactors, and a few roll-off areas - with recycling bins typically grouped to one side. Winter conditions can make the lot slippery and slower to move through, and weekends or spring cleanup times often have a line of pickups and trailers. Bring items ready to unload and be prepared to pull forward and follow staff directions for where to leave things.
