Metro Solid Waste Management Department

600 Meriwether Ave, Louisville, KY 40217

(502) 574-3571

This is Louisville's Metro Solid Waste Management Department location on Meriwether Avenue, used by residents hauling household trash, yard debris, and recyclables. Locals swing by with pickups, trailers, or carloads when the regular bins won't do or during cleanup projects.

Drive in off Meriwether and you'll see an entrance booth and a wide access road leading to the main dumping and drop-off areas; the site is fairly large and has open paved and gravel sections. There is usually a scale and a weigh station near the entrance, so plan for a short stop at both the in- and outbound points. Recycling and yard waste drop-offs tend to be grouped to one side, while general trash areas are in another; signs and lanes help point the way even when it's busy. Weekends-especially in spring and fall-get crowded, so expect a line and bring something to secure loads while waiting.

Before You Go

  • Bring something to cover loose materials; windy days can make things messy and require quick re-securing.
  • Have loads sorted as much as possible before getting to the booth to avoid extra moving around on site.
  • If towing a trailer, know how wide and long it is-some aisles and turns can be tight for longer rigs.
