Construction Debris: What You Can (and Can't) Take to the Dump
Renovating your home? Drywall, lumber, concrete, and roofing materials have different disposal rules than regular trash. Here's what to know.
Read more →Benson Valley Landfill is the big county landfill out on KY-151 in Frankfort, used by homeowners hauling household trash and by haulers dropping commercial loads. It’s the kind of place that sees everything from pickup-bed loads to roll-off trucks. Expect a working-site feel rather than anything fancy.
There’s a drive-up entrance with an attendant booth and a scale - vehicles pull up to be weighed and then again on the way out since tipping fees are charged by weight. The site is large, with dirt drives and visible burial cells and compacted cover areas; bring a bit of patience while navigating trucks and heavy equipment. Traffic can back up at the booth during busy times, and drivers usually follow attendants’ directions to the tipping area and back to the outbound scale. Vehicles often need to line up to unload, so allow extra time compared with a drop-off at a transfer station.
