Waste Management - Kansas City Recycling Center is a local recycling drop-off a lot of neighborhood folks use when cleaning out garages or moving. Located on S 88th just south of the main commercial strip, it’s aimed at keeping common recyclables out of Kansas landfills. People from nearby suburbs and rural areas swing by with boxes, cans, and larger items on weekend cleanups.

Drive up the long approach and there’s a small entrance booth and a few lanes to pull into; larger trucks and trailers are common here. The recycling receptacles and roll-off containers sit to the right past the entrance, with piles and bays for different materials; expect to walk a short distance from where a vehicle stops. A scale and traffic flow control are visible near the in/out lanes, and vehicles sometimes queue during spring or holiday weekends. Look for staff directing traffic but bring materials sorted as much as possible to speed things along.

Before You Go

  • Break down boxes and flatten cardboard before unloading - it saves space and time when placing items in the cardboard bin.
  • Secure loose items in a truck bed or trailer so nothing blows out while waiting in line; tarps and bungee cords come in handy.
  • Expect delays on weekend mornings; arriving midweek or later in the afternoon usually means shorter lines and quicker drop-off.
