Construction Debris: What You Can (and Can't) Take to the Dump
Renovating your home? Drywall, lumber, concrete, and roofing materials have different disposal rules than regular trash. Here's what to know.
Read more →Thomas County Landfill is the main disposal site serving Colby and the surrounding counties in northwest Kansas. Local residents and haulers drop off household trash, construction debris and commercial loads here. It’s a working landfill-big, open and set up for trucks rather than curbside pickup.
Drive up to a small entrance booth and be prepared to pull onto a scale; this type of facility charges by weight and tipping fees apply so most vehicles stop twice. The site is large with dirt/gravel roads and piles of cover material and compacted trash visible from the driving lanes. Commercial trucks and roll-offs are handled here, so expect tractor-trailers and bobcats moving material during weekdays. Recycling or smaller drop-off bins, if present, are usually off to the side near the entrance area.
