Scott County Landfill Department

481 E Rd 160, Scott City, KS 67871

(620) 872-2202

Scott County Landfill Department is the county landfill out past town where people from Scott City and surrounding areas haul household and business trash. It’s the place where loads get buried rather than recycled or processed, so residents and haulers use it when other drop-off sites won’t do. Straightforward and practical, this is the end point for bulk junk and regular trash loads.

Drive up the gravel lane to an entrance booth and a scale - tipping fees are charged by weight, so expect to use the scale on the way in and again when you leave. The site is fairly large with working faces of earth and areas where trucks stage before dumping; wear dusty shoes and keep a close eye on where trucks are moving. Commercial loads are handled here alongside residential ones, and staff will direct where to pull up for dumping and where to drive back over the scale. Recycling drop-offs, if present, are usually off to the side near the entrance rather than mixed in with the main landfill area.

Before You Go

  • Secure loose items and tarps before leaving home; windy days make tarps come off quickly and staff will want loose debris contained.
  • Bring proof of county residency or business credentials if required - many county landfills ask for ID at the booth.
  • Try to time visits outside peak weekend cleanup hours to avoid long lines; commercial haulers often use early mornings.
