(800) 627-1717A local transfer station on the east edge of Galena where residents and small haulers drop off loads that get compacted and shipped out to a regional landfill. Mostly used by people who want something closer than driving all the way to a distant landfill. It sits at 1715 E Front St and looks like an industrial lot rather than a recycling center.
Drive in off Front Street and you'll see a small entrance area with a booth and a short line of trucks or pickups on busy days. There's usually a scale and a spot to pull up to talk to the attendant, then a short drive to where the trailers or compactors are; expect to stop again on the way out. The site is mostly paved with concrete bays and piles or containers a short distance from the entrance; it looks utilitarian, dusty in dry weather and muddy after rain. Weekends and spring cleanup bring the biggest lines.
