Nemaha County Landfill

1872 US-36, Sabetha, KS 66534

(785) 336-3070

Nemaha County Landfill is the county landfill on US-36 just outside Sabetha. Locals and haulers from around the area use it as the final place to bury trash and construction debris. It’s the kind of place that handles both household and larger commercial deliveries for the region.

Drive up to a clearly marked entrance and you'll see a scale house and weigh scale where loads are checked and charged by weight; plan to stop for a weigh-in on the way in and again on the way out. The site is large and mostly open-piles of covered soil, compacted trash areas, and heavy equipment moving around are common sights. Pull up to the working face or the tipping pad when directed; staff or signs usually point traffic, but expect to drive over gravel and uneven ground. Recycling/drop-off bins are often set off to the side past the booth, and weekends or spring clean-up times can be noticeably busier.

Before You Go

  • Secure loose loads with a tarp or net before leaving home-loose debris blows off and slows things down for everyone.
  • Bring paperwork or ID for a commercial load if hauling for a business; regional landfills typically accept commercial deliveries and they’ll want to record weights.
  • Aim for mid-morning on a weekday to avoid the longer lines common on weekend clean-up days, and use a vehicle with decent clearance for the gravel access roads.
