Kearny County Landfill on Road P in Lakin is the county landfill - bigger than a neighborhood drop-off but not one of those huge regional sites. Farmers, contractors and homeowners bring loads here when curbside pickup or recycling won’t do. The place looks like working ground: gravel drives, open disposal areas and heavy equipment moving piles around.
There’s usually an entrance booth and a scale - county landfills commonly weigh loads and charge tipping fees either by weight or by load, with different tiers for commercial haulers. Pull up to the booth/scale, then follow the traffic flow to a dumping area where trucks and trailers back in to tip. Expect dust, uneven ground and machinery; take it slow while maneuvering. On busy days lines can form, especially when lots of people are cleaning out yards or doing construction projects.
