Harvey County Transfer Station/Landfill

3205 SW 24th St, Newton, KS 67114

(316) 283-5439

A county transfer station in Newton where local residents drop off household refuse and small loads that get compacted and hauled to a larger landfill. People from around Harvey County use it when hauling from garages, yards or small renovations. It’s the practical option when hauling everything straight to a distant regional landfill isn’t convenient.

Drive up to a staffed entrance booth and be prepared to stop; there’s usually a scale nearby so vehicles may be weighed on the way in or out. Pull-up lanes lead to concrete pads or a tipping floor where loads are emptied into a compactor or container, and there are piles or containers for different types of material a short walk away from the main unloading area. The site is industrial: heavy equipment, compacted piles, and gravel or paved surfaces; expect dust in dry weather and mud after rain. Lines form on busy days, so there can be a short wait to get through the gate and onto the scale or tipping area.

Before You Go

  • Secure and tarp loose materials so debris doesn’t blow out while driving to and from the site.
  • Unload the truck or trailer so the vehicle can drive onto the scale and out without blocking traffic-have straps and gloves handy to speed things up.
  • Try to arrive early on weekdays or before peak weekend times; weekends and spring cleanups commonly have the longest lines.
