Graham County Landfill

2400 US-283, Hill City, KS 67642

(785) 421-5524

Graham County Landfill is the big county dump out on US-283 that folks from Hill City and surrounding areas use when the small drop sites won't cut it. Expect it to handle bulky and commercial loads as well as regular household trash. Trucks and pickups both show up here-it's the final burying spot for a region, not a quick neighborhood drop-off.

Drive up the long approach off US-283 and you'll see a scale house near the entrance; vehicles usually stop there to weigh in and then again on the way out. The site itself is wide open with dirt roads and piles of cover material; big roll-offs and compactors are common if several commercial trucks are on site. Residential vehicles pull up to a tipping area while larger haulers get directed toward the working face, and drivers should be ready for some walking between piles and bins. Expect tipping fees billed by weight for most loads, and be prepared for a no-frills, practical setup rather than anything polished.

Before You Go

  • Bring a tarp or truck bed cover-wind can scatter loose trash, and staff commonly expect loads to be contained.
  • Allow extra time on weekends or during spring cleanup since multiple counties funnel loads here and lines can form at the scale.
  • Have vehicle paperwork handy if hauling commercial loads; large haulers are common and are handled separately from residential drop-offs.
