Mahaska County Sanitary Landfill is the county landfill at 2979 US Highway 63, just outside Oskaloosa. Local contractors, haulers and homeowners bring loads here when trash needs final burial rather than curbside pickup.
The site looks big and open - dirt roads, landfill cells and heavy equipment are visible from the entrance. Like most landfills, there is usually a scale/entrance area where loads are recorded and tipping fees are assessed by weight or load type. Pull in slowly and leave room for trucks and trailers; the ground can be rough where unloading happens. Expect the longest lines on weekends and during spring cleanup season.
