County Transfer Station Site is the local transfer station in Tipton where household and farm loads are dropped off to be compacted and sent on to a landfill elsewhere. Neighbors from around the county use it when they don’t want to drive all the way to a distant landfill. The site handles both residential and agricultural-type loads, especially during busy seasons.

The entrance has a small booth and a drive-in area; vehicles usually pull up to check in and then follow the lane toward the tipping floor. There’s a scale and a compacting/transfer area where trucks load the compacted material for transport, so expect to see large transfer trailers and some heavy equipment. Recycling bins or drop-off containers are typically off to one side of the main drive; expect traffic to back up on weekends and during spring or fall cleanups. The yard is functional rather than landscaped - gravel or paved surfaces with signs and fencing around the working areas.

Before You Go

  • Secure loose material with a tarp so nothing blows out on the way and to avoid extra cleanup time at the site.
  • Sort recyclables and obvious separables before driving in to speed up unloading and reduce time waiting in line.
  • Avoid mid-morning weekends during spring cleanup season if possible; those times commonly have the longest lines and slowest flow.
