City of Muscatine Landfill sits off U.S. Highway 61 north of town, just over the line by Blue Grass. Locals and local haulers bring household junk and construction debris here; it’s the municipal landfill where trash gets buried and covered.
Drive up to a small entrance booth and a vehicle scale; the site charges by weight, so plan on being weighed and stopped again on the way out. The facility is large with dirt cells and heavy equipment working-expect dust in dry weather and mud after rain. After the booth there's a short drive to the active tipping area and then back over the scale to finish. Lines form on weekends and during spring cleanups, so be prepared for a bit of wait at busy times.
