Recycling Center

Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling Division

500 15th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404

(319) 286-5897

A city recycling center used by Cedar Rapids residents and nearby farmers for dropping off recyclables and seasonal farm material. People come here for household recycling, larger cleanups, and the occasional agricultural cleanup during planting or harvest windows.

Drive up to a staffed entrance booth and pull into the traffic flow; there’s usually a scale and a weigh station somewhere near the entrance so vehicles may need to stop twice. Recycling bins and roll-offs are arranged in rows-paper and cardboard, metals, and mixed containers are commonly separated; yard waste and bulk drop-offs are often in a different area. The site is industrial: concrete pads, gravel drives, and large containers, so expect to walk a short distance from a truck or car to the drop-off point. Weekends and spring cleanup times get busy, and larger trucks and farm equipment are common on site during seasonal periods.

Before You Go

  • Sort materials before you get to the booth-cardboard flattened, containers loose of food, and metals separated-that saves time while you’re on site.
  • Bring straps or a tarp for loose loads; wind and passing traffic can scatter lightweight items if not secured.
  • Plan for delays on weekend mornings and during spring/fall cleanups; arrive early if hauling a big load and expect to wait behind trailers and pickups.
