Transfer Station

Waste Management - Gary Transfer Station

6801 W 15th Ave, Gary, IN 46406

(219) 977-8095

A basic transfer station in Gary where household and small contractor loads get dropped off and sent on to a landfill. Locals and landscapers both use it when hauling debris that’s too big for curbside pickup. It’s the kind of place people swing by when taking a load someplace closer than driving to a distant landfill.

Drive up to a gated entrance with a small booth and a lane to pull forward; there’s usually a short line on weekend mornings. Vehicles park near a raised tipping area or pit where trash is emptied into large compactors and waiting transfer trucks. The site looks industrial: concrete pads, big metal containers, and heavy equipment moving material around. Expect to be directed where to dump and then to drive back out past the entrance area when finished.

Before You Go

  • Secure loose items and tarp any light debris so things don’t blow out when dumping or driving through the lot.
  • Bring a vehicle or trailer setup that’s easy to tip or unload-beds that dump or removable tailgates save a lot of hassle.
  • Go during a weekday or mid-afternoon if possible; lines are noticeably longer on weekend mornings and during seasonal cleanups.
