Renovating your home? Drywall, lumber, concrete, and roofing materials have different disposal rules than regular trash. Here's what to know.
Read more →South Side Landfill, Inc. is the big landfill on Kentucky Avenue that handles municipal and commercial loads for the south side of Indianapolis. It’s the kind of place contractors, hauling companies, and homeowners with large cleanouts use when they need a final place to bury trash. As a landfill, it’s large in scale and operates with tipping fees rather than flat drop-off fees.
There’s a drive-up entrance with an intake/booth area where vehicles queue before being weighed on a scale; expect to stop on the way in and again on the way out if they charge by weight. The site is mostly open earth and lined cells-rolled dirt roads, piles of compacted material, and heavy equipment moving around. Vehicles are routed to a tipping area; after unloading, drivers typically back away and rejoin the exit route toward the outbound scale. Weekends and spring cleanup times get busier, so lines and slow-moving trucks are common.
