(812) 752-8474Scott County Landfill And Reuse Center is the county landfill just south of Scottsburg, used by residents and commercial haulers to drop off garbage that’s buried here. The place handles large loads and has a reuse area for items that can be reclaimed rather than tossed. It’s the final stop for materials that aren’t taken to convenience centers around the county.
There’s a scale house as you drive in - loads are weighed and tipping fees are based on weight, so expect to stop there both coming and going. Pull up to the booth, get directed to the active cell or drop-off pad, then back out to the scale again; trucks and trailers need the extra room for turning. The reuse center is set off to one side where usable items get set aside, and the whole site looks like a typical working landfill with compacted rows and heavy equipment moving around. Weekends and spring cleanup times can be noticeably busier, so lines form at the entry booth if several vehicles show up at once.
