(812) 376-2614Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District on S. Mapleton is where Columbus residents and people from the county bring household trash, recycling and seasonal yard debris. It’s the county-run solid waste site used for anything from a couple of bags after a weekend clean-up to trailer loads during yard season.
The site looks like a working lot with rows of containers and piles for different materials, not a tidy mall - bring closed-toe shoes and a little patience. Many county centers have a small entrance booth and a scale, so traffic tends to slow right at the front; some counties charge by the bag or by vehicle weight. Vehicles pull up, sort what they need to drop off, then leave; trailers usually take longer to unload. Weekends, especially spring cleanup weekends, get backed up, so lines are common then.
