Quad Cities Landfill Phase IV is the large municipal landfill out on Knoxville Road in Milan that both residents and commercial haulers use when trash needs to be buried. Landfills like this usually charge tipping fees by weight or volume, and commercial loads are commonly accepted. State rules and local fee schedules vary, so expect differences from other sites.
Drive up to an entrance booth and a scale - most people stop twice, once in and again on the way out, because charges are usually by weight. Inside the site there are big working faces of compacted material, haul trucks coming and going, and open tipping areas where vehicles pull up and dump. It’s not a tidy recycling center; expect dust, mud in wet weather, and a lot of heavy equipment noises. Lines build up on weekends and during spring cleanup, so traffic and wait times can get long.
