Lanai Landfill

Lanai Landfill, Kaumalapau Highway (Hwy 440), Lanai City, 96763, Hawaiii

Lanai Landfill is the island's municipal burial site off Kaumalapau Highway (Hwy 440) in Lanai City. Locals and commercial haulers bring everything from household cleanouts to contractor loads. The place is small compared with mainland dumps, so expect a compact, working-site feel.

There’s an entrance booth and a scale-landfills commonly charge tipping fees by weight or vehicle type, so plan accordingly. Pull up to the booth, then follow the access road toward the active dumping area where trucks typically back in to tip. The site looks utilitarian: exposed soil, berms, and the working face; vehicles come and go steadily. Lines form sometimes, especially on busy weekends, so allow extra time.

Before You Go

  • Cover loads before driving on Hwy 440 to keep debris from blowing out during the trip.
  • Load items in groups (loose debris, bulky pieces, things that need two people) so unloading at the edge goes faster.
  • Estimate your load size or weight ahead of time-tipping fees are usually based on weight or vehicle type, and having a sense of size helps avoid surprises.
