Keei Transfer Station

82-6271 Puuhonua Rd, Captain Cook, HI 96704

Keei Transfer Station is the small county transfer station out on Puuhonua Road that locals use when a trip to a big landfill isn't worth it. Residents drop off household loads and smaller bulky items here; it's the kind of place people bring a truck or trailer to instead of driving farther down-island. The setting feels island-small - not fancy, just functional and familiar to neighborhood drivers.

Drive up a short drive lane to a staffed entrance booth and be prepared to pull into a scale if instructed - loads are typically weighed before and after. The tipping area is a compact yard with large bays and a compactor truck that hauls things off the island; it looks rough and industrial, not landscaped. Recycling or drop-off bins are usually grouped to one side past the booth, and there’s concrete ramps and chutes where people unload. Weekends and holiday cleanup times often have a line, so plan for a bit of wait if it’s busy.

Before You Go

  • Load trucks and trailers so items can be handed or tossed off quickly - loose branches and tied bundles are much easier to manage than a tangled mess.
  • Cover loose rubbish on the drive in case of wind; sudden gusts can send paper and light debris everywhere at the yard.
  • Avoid the busiest times like Saturday mornings and the week after holidays if a quicker trip is the goal.
