Transfer Station

Waste Management - Gateway Transfer Station

1625 Westgate Pkwy SW, Atlanta, GA 30336

(404) 349-6539

Small-ish transfer station on Westgate Parkway where residential and small commercial loads get compacted and sent on to a landfill. Locals drop off things when hauling a truckload or clearing out a garage; it’s more convenient than driving out to a distant landfill. The place looks industrial from the road, not landscaped or pretty-just functional.

Drive up to a booth at the entrance to check in and be directed where to pull up; there’s usually a scale to cross before dumping so the truck will go over it twice. The tipping area is a concrete pad with high walls and a big compactor or hopper nearby; expect to back in and dump into a pile rather than disassemble items. Recycling or special material bins are often set off to the side, past the main dumping area. Weekends and spring cleanup times tend to have the longest lines, so there can be waiting and some queuing through the yard.

Before You Go

  • Bring your load organized so stuff can be tossed quickly; longer, awkward items slow down everyone behind you.
  • Have a tarp or straps handy-loose debris can fly off during travel and some attendants may ask that loads be contained before entering the scale.
  • Use a vehicle with a bed you can back easily into the tipping pad; tight turns and backing up are part of the routine here.
