Transfer Station

Waste Management - Columbus Hauling & Transfer Station

2015 Veterans Pkwy, Columbus, GA 31904

(706) 323-3660

A transfer station on Veterans Parkway where local residents and small haulers drop off trash to be compacted and sent on to a landfill. Many people from Columbus use it when driving all the way to a distant landfill isn't worth the trip. Trucks come and go, so expect an industrial, working-site feel.

Drive up to an entry booth and stop to be directed onto the scale; they charge by weight so there’s usually another stop on the way out. After the booth, pull into lanes that lead to large concrete tipping bays where loads are dumped into compactors or open pits; big trucks frequently back in. The yard is paved and noisy-forklifts, compactors, and transfer trailers are common sights-and traffic moves in set patterns, so watch signage and follow the attendants’ directions. Recycling or drop-off bins are often placed off to one side of the main tipping area, separate from the active compaction lanes.

Before You Go

  • Cover loose loads with a tarp before leaving home so anything that blows won’t become a roadside mess while driving to the site.
  • Load vehicles so heavy, bulky items go in first; that makes unloading in the tipping bay faster and keeps smaller stuff from getting stuck underneath.
  • Expect queues on weekend mornings and during spring cleanup-arriving midweek or later in the afternoon can save time if a quicker trip is the goal.
