Ellijay Transfer Station

114 Progress Road, Ellijay, GA 30540

800-963-4776

Ellijay Transfer Station is the local transfer station on Progress Road where neighborhood residents and small haulers drop off loads to be compacted and sent on to a landfill elsewhere. People bringing yard cleanups, old furniture, or construction debris use this place because it’s closer than driving all the way to a distant landfill. It’s a working site with trucks and heavy equipment moving material around.

Pull into 114 Progress Road and you'll see a single entry drive and an entrance booth or gate where vehicles stop briefly. Drive toward the tipping area where roll-off containers, large piles, and compacting equipment are usually visible; drivers back up to a concrete pad or open container to unload. There are recycling bins and separate containers set off to one side, and big transfer trucks come and go hauling compacted loads. Expect dust, noise from machinery, and a fairly industrial, utilitarian layout rather than anything landscaped or tidy.

Before You Go

  • Sort bulky items from bagged household trash before getting to the drop point so unloading goes faster and fewer trips back and forth are needed.
  • Bring gloves and eye protection; loads can be dusty and have sharp edges, and tying down loose items in the truck bed prevents spills while waiting in line.
  • Try to arrive on a weekday morning if possible-weekends and spring cleanup season often have longer lines and more congestion.
