St Lucie County Sanitary Landfill

6120 Glades Cut Off Rd, Fort Pierce, FL 34981

(772) 462-1768

A working landfill out on Glades Cut Off Road that handles the county’s final-disposal loads; mostly used by residents cleaning out a house and by commercial haulers dropping off large loads. It’s the place trash ends up being buried, so expect a big, industrial-feeling site rather than anything tidy or landscaped.

Drive up to an entrance booth and then past a scale - tipping fees are assessed by weight, so most vehicles get weighed in and again on the way out. The property is large with rolling dirt ramps, compacted trash faces and heavy equipment moving around; visibility can be dusty on dry days. Commercial trucks are accepted here, and during hurricane season or big yard-clearing periods the line for the gate and the unload area can back up. There are often separate piles or areas for things like yard waste versus mixed demolition loads, so be prepared to be directed where to dump.

Before You Go

  • Leave extra time on weekends and especially after storms - queues and slow-moving trucks are common.
  • Secure and tarp loads tightly; have a helper to guide unloading since machinery and other trucks are active nearby.
  • Expect to stop at the scale twice (in and out) and factor that into travel time - weighing is how tipping fees are calculated.
